MATTHEW NEL

Matthew Nel was born in Zimbabwe and later raised in Malawi. Drawn to stories and the world of imagination from a young age, Matthews’s journey to AFDA and the decision to study film came as little surprise. The surprise, however, did come in the form of an unexpected love for sound design. Intrigued by the subject from the earliest introduction, Matthew sights an appreciation for books as the unlikely source of this love. With the immersive worlds of sound created in works like the now lost Pottermore, Graphic Audio, and the countless radio dramas & podcasts available, being notable inspirations. Combining that wonderful ability sound has to create an immersive world, with the stunning score and visuals created in this collaborative medium.
